Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

Description—The poodle has been a very popular breed in many cultures for hundreds of years and is believed to have originated in Western Europe some 400 years ago. Although more than one European country claims to be the "home" of this breed, the poodle is now officially recognized as having originated from France. Regardless of exactly where the Poodle originated, it is clear that this breed descended from the Barbet (a French water dog) and possibly the Hungarian Water Hound. This water dog ancestry is remembered by the name "Poodle," which is a derivative of the German word "Pudel," meaning "one who plays in water." Poodles are highly intelligent, sensitive, and "trainable" dogs. They are known for their ability to learn tricks and stunts, making them very popular in the circus environment. Poodles are bred in three size categories: toy, miniature, and standard. All three sizes, however, are considered to be one breed and follow the same breed standard. The coat is either tightly curly or corded and comes in a variety of colors (e.g., silver, grey, black, apricot, and white). It is non-shedding and non-allergenic. The head is long with a narrow, tapering snout. Ears are moderately long, wide, and flat, lying on each side of the head. The bone structure of the poodle is relatively "fine" and lightweight. The tail is set high on the rump and is docked at approximately 845-635-9609% of its original length.

Temperament—Some are very affectionate and are great companions while also being nervous and spiteful. And they invariably tend to bark a lot!
